A closer look at the modules

Adventure & Sport

The Adventure tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the country. Tourist guiding, including adventure guiding, is a legally regulated profession. To become a recognised accredited tourism or facilitator (level 2, 3) in SA, one is required by law to register as such with an appropriate qualification. Students do the Adventure Recreation Association (ARA) Certificate course, and qualify as ARA Level 2 Assistant Adventure Activity Facilitators / Leaders.

The course is also ideal for potential entrepreneurs intent on starting an Eco-Tourism business of their own and who need the skills to manage their small business effectively.

In addition you will assist with our Outdoor Education Centre’s camps and trails and on the sports side participate in relevant coaching courses, Furthermore you will be involved with our clinics and tournaments and may assist at the local schools. We also do the Sportlife course, which includes topics such as the human body, play, sport and competition, character, emotions, relationships, trails & transitions, money, callings and careers.

Students are therefore exposed to practical hands-on experience to make an informed career choice. You will be outside often. You will get cold, hot, uncomfortable and sometimes tired. But if you are made from outdoor and sport material, you will love every minute of it!

Agriculture and Farming

If you’re looking to spend a part of your Gap Year getting your hands dirty on the farm and in the community, this module could be just what you’re looking for! One of the benefits about this part of the programme is the opportunity to work outdoors. This hands-on, practical module teaches the students very valuable skills relating to farm work in particular and agriculture generally. The subjects are taught by instructors, experienced in their fields. The students also participate in social responsibility projects which give them valuable community exposure.

One of the most important developmental aspects of adolescents is to make peace with the uniqueness of their own identity. We assist with guiding our students towards that goal which, once achieved, move them to the next phase of their journey of discovering the purpose of his/her life. They learn how to set and be held accountable for their personal goals and commitments under the guidance of our dedicated mentorship.

It is about becoming life-fit and resilient. You must learn how to handle some one of life’s difficult situations. You will learn a wide range of great skills to help you flourish and function effectively in society.
